B Dear Aunt B Readers, So let’s address the second half of Ready for More’s question. “Do we really become the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with?” Ready for More’s concern was that they were the top 3 (me, myself and I), so they felt they definitely needed to break out of that rut. Let’s talk about the fact that the most of their time was spent alone, or at least that is how I took their comment.
I imagine if you spend most of your time alone and that is how you like it, then no problem. Again, just guessing here but because of the question, I am assuming that is not what you want. So yes, break out of your rut. You said it, sweetheart, you are ready for more. So go for more. I know this is easier for some people than for others, and we have discussed in the past some ways to meet new people. To refresh, get out a little more. Where to go, especially at this time, can be uncomfortable. Churches can be a good place to start. There are a wide variety of churches in our area. Visit some of them and see if there is a fit. Do you have any hobbies? They may offer meet ups in the area that are based on your specific hobbies. I believe you can find these online as well. Don’t discount friendships online. We are no longer bound by meeting others in person. This, in my opinion, is a gift and a curse. I love meeting people online and having so many like-minded people to discuss and learn from. HOWEVER, THIS CAN COME WITH SPECIAL PROBLEMS, SO PLEASE PROTECT YOURSELF ONLINE. There are many scams and potential problems out there.
Never put your private information online or give to people you do not know. There are very creative people out there that will scam you out of your life savings. This is so serious that I will write another article on this very topic. Please do not just use Aunt B for your advice on this matter. Talk to your family and loved ones. Ask ones you trust to set up protections on your computer.
As normal, I digressed. I definitely believe that we become the average of the top 5 people we spend the most time around. This quote of Jim Rohn’s has quite a following and has been around for quite a long time. It goes deeper still. The five closest people of the five people you spend time with also affect you.
The bottom line, the people we spend time with determines our interests, our activities, and what we think about and choose to learn about. The five people you spend the most time with affects your goals, your conversations, your income, the movies you watch or don’t watch, the foods you eat, whether you exercise or not, the books you read, what you drink, what you do for pleasure, and so much more. How can all of the above not affect the life you live and how you experience that life?
I like to spend time with passionate people, motivated people, and grateful people. I enjoy people who are open minded and inspire me. I enjoy many different kinds of people. I enjoy people with the same interests as me, but I also enjoy people with different interests. They’re the ones that give me new ideas and things to learn. I like smart, happy, positive, and committed people.
There are a few deal breakers for me concerning the people I will hang with. Mainly, they must be kind.
Figure out the type of people you want around you and find out where they go. Spend time with people that are living the life and lifestyle you desire.
Love, Aunt B
