A tradition spanning more than two decades returned to the Forney area this week. The local council of the Knights of Columbus kicked off its annual Fish Fry Dinners last Friday night, held annually in the Parish Hall of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Parish.
Though the event which began in the early 2000s is hosted by those associated with St. Martin of Tours Parish, it is open to anyone in the community, so bring your family and neighbors to come check it out! With a focus on creating a laidback atmosphere for the community to enjoy a delicious meal together, the Knights of Columbus work with Trinity Concessions in Terrell to acquire and prepare nearly 700 pounds of food for each fish fry in anticipation of roughly 400 to 450 patrons. This is not only a hearty meal, but also a great opportunity for fellowship. Grand Knight John Vrla points out that kids and families are not only welcomed at the event but that it is a joy to have the youngest generation laughing and playing during the fellowship time.
St. Martin of Tours Parish, located at the intersection of FM 1641 and I-20 in Talty, and the Knights of Columbus invite you to join them for your choice of fish, shrimp, or a combination of the two, as well as French fries, hush puppies, dessert, and a drink. Dinner plates are $13.50 for the fish option or $15.50 for the combo, and this price (payable through cash or credit/debit card) includes the sides, dessert, and drink. The community fellowship comes free with the meal.
The Knights of Columbus, as a whole, functions on the principles of charity, unity, patriotism and fraternity, and Council 13133 exhibits those attributes through its many events and outreaches, only one of which is the annual Friday Night Fish Fry. This year, the Council plans to contribute to a number of community charities including Toys for Tots, the Genesis Center, Special Olympics, and more. The funds raised through the fish fry will account for much of the donations by the local nonprofit organization.
If this is your first time to attend, you can be sure you’ll feel right at home from the moment you enter the doors of the Parish Hall. No RSVP is necessary. As you place your order and pay for your meal, friendly faces will direct you to pick up your dinner and take a seat at one of the tables in the Parish Hall where you’ll enjoy a family friendly atmosphere and a great meal.
Make plans to join in on this community tradition on any of the following dates: March 3, March 17, March 24, and March 31. Plates are served from 5:00pm to 7:30pm.
