With the warm weather conditions happening this January, thanks to the La Nina winter, many of the “weeds” that bloom in spring are growing and coming back after every temperature dip near freezing. One of the most stalwart are dandelions. Dandelions often get an unfair assessment for just being weeds, when, in fact, they play a vital role for wild bee populations, as well as other pollinators like butterflies and moths. When bees emerge from the hive, they are extremely hungry and need pollen and nectar to start their job of gathering for the hive–and dandelions provide that, even in January.

Like the bees, the construction workers on the various school projects are taking advantage of the spring-like conditions. With some opening in Fall 2023 (The OC and Dewberry Elementary) and others opening in Fall 2024 (Themer Middle School, Jones Intermediate, Wilson Elementary), Gallagher is building like bees in the hive. They’re meeting weekly, inspecting the progress of the campuses and the facilities department is sending out requests for proposals for furniture and fixtures for the future schools.

The Forney Education Foundation is buzzing for the additional students that we’ll be seeing in the 20242025 school year. With the projected enrollment being over 21,000, these campuses are already full. The Board members are thinking about how we can add to the complete educational experience for all of the students in the district; every student in FISD has their own future just waiting for a little extra sweetness from our donors. The Foundation supports all of the many ways for students to be educated about their chosen path–whether it be welding or electrical, medical or legal, culinary or horticultural, small business or corporate, education or administration.

Your opportunity to be the nurturing dandelion for the emerging bees in Forney ISD is right around the corner! You have options to help, just like the students have their options to seize their future. Visit www.forneyisdfoundation. org and see how you can help our beehive of a district thrive!
