This week we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, one of our nation’s most ardent fighters for the value of education. For the week we honor his birthday, we remember his protesting to improve the schooling of his children and his neighbors’ children and that, as a community, we can carry on his legacy on a day-to-day level. The Forney Education Foundation is committed to the same ideals Dr. King reminded us are worth working for, such as the opportunity to achieve a higher standard than what is expected. The Foundation is committed to extending opportunity to Forney ISD students.
“It seems to me,” wrote Dr King, “that education has a two-fold function to perform in the life of man and in society: the one is utility, and the other is culture.”
Forney Education Foundation has the ability to fulfill both of these functions extolled by Dr. King because of the support from the Forney Community as well as the corporate donors that believe in the mission of FEF. Thanks to the generous funding of the teachers of Forney ISD, the parents of FISD students, and our friends in the business community, FEF works to fulfill those two aspects of education. By funding individual students when they take AP and CTE Certification Exams, we help FISD supply utility to our students, and by funding individual teacher-requested grants, we help supply a strong educational culture.
As Dr. King said, “Intelligence plus character - that is the true goal of education.” Our goal at the Foundation is to combine individual student success with the tools that our professional, generous teachers request in their grants.
