The Layden Senior Citizens Center of Forney welcomes you at 101 Main Street in City Hall, open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please enter the front or through Handicap accessible doors located at the back of City Hall, where reserved parking for seniors is also available.

The center is a non-profit organization, so we work on donations. However, if you are unable to donate, please do not let this prevent you from attending the center to eat and/or join in on the many fun festivities. Everyone is appreciated!

The center is ever thankful to our generous donors: Panera Bread, Smurfit Kappa, Papa John’s Pizza, and our Bingo sponsors: Alinea Hospice, Cheyenne Medical Lodge, Empower, Rely On Credit Union, and Oak Street Health, each of whom contribute weekly prizes. We invite you to frequent them whenever you can.

Be sure to pick up your copy of the January calendar so you do not miss out on all the joy and love in our community. Many thanks, as always, to our dynamic Director, Dena, who consistently strives to ensure there are plenty of meaningful and fun activities to participate in.

For instance, last week, there was a Devotional led by Greg Pharris, President of the School Board.

This week, on Tuesday, January 10, we will have a purse and jewelry swap at 11:00, always a fun activity! The first 2023 site council meeting will be held right before, at 9:00.

Our monthly Covered Dish event will be Wednesday, January 11. The Center will furnish fried chicken from Brookshire’s so just bring your favorite side dish or dessert.

Our regular scheduled weekly activities include, but are not limited to: Bridge on Tuesday, Thursdays at 12:30 Bingo Mondays, Fridays at 10:00 Line Dancing Thursdays at 11:00 Noodle Ball Tuesdays at 11:00 Art/Drawing on Thursdays at 9:30 If you are 60 or older and want to join us for lunch at noon, please either drop by or call 972-552-6690 to sign up by 10:30 a.m. There is also the opportunity to eat breakfast at the center from 8:30-10:30am. Check out this week’s recipe for a delicious, easy brunch dish: https://www.superhealthykids.com/blueberryfrench- toast-casserole/ The key to making 2023 your best year yet is going into it with the right mindset. For example, in order to embrace all things positive and new, we must relinquish and let go of the old, including any negatives or harboring of resentments. If you need help, there are wonderful local churches, support groups, community support at the Center, and/or health care professionals, if you need them. There is truth to the saying, ‘what you focus on expands.’ So let us focus on goodness, joy, good health, peace, happiness, prosperity, and reset in the best mindset.
