County Officials Sworn in During Special January 1st Meeting

On Sunday, January 1, 2023, Kaufman County Commissioners’ Court rang in the new year with a special meeting to swear in local elected officials. County Judge Hal Richards led the event, which was held in the Ceremonial Courtroom of the county’s new Justice Center in Kaufman.

Family, friends, and colleagues of these dedicated public servants looked on in support they each took their oaths of office.

Jakie Allen, who formerly served residents as a Kaufman County Commissioner, took an oath to serve in his new position as Kaufman County Judge. Judge Richards did not seek another term in this position during last year’s elections. Tracy Gray was sworn in for another term as Judge of the County Court at Law, a position to which she was first elected in November 2018. Casey Blair has served as the District Judge of Kaufman County’s 86th Judicial District since he was originally elected in November 2014 and was sworn in for another term Sunday. Criminal District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley, who was appointed to this position in 2013, took her oath to serve another term. Amy Tarno was sworn in as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2, a role she has filled since she was elected in November 2018. And Kaufman County Commissioner of Precinct 2, Skeet Phillips, was sworn in as well and will continue to serve in this position he has held for nearly a decade.

Also taking oaths at this special ceremony were Teressa Floyd, Kaufman County Tax Assessor-Collector; Bobby Rich, Judge of County Court at Law #2; Rhonda Hughey, District Clerk; Laura A. Hughes, County Clerk; Chuck Mohnkern, County Treasurer; Mary A. Bardin, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1; Rhitt Jackson, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3; Johnny Adams, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4; and Tommy Moore, Commissioner of Precinct 4.

Kaufman County is the fastest-growing county in the country, and these men and women work tirelessly to serve its many residents.
