We are asked many times about our personal “Why” - why we so passionately believe in the Forney Education Foundation. And all of the Board members have different whys but they do tend to be the same reason: the children/students in Forney ISD. And I am no different in my main reason— it is the children in FISD that help me ask strangers for funding for FEF, explain what FEF has done for the students in Forney ISD since 2004, and keep me writing these articles.
Who is “Because”? Well, she was born 92 years ago on December 23 in Fort Worth, Texas, married at 21, and became my mother at 27. She was a stay-athome mom like so many of her generation and was the poster woman for Home Room Mother. When the principal at Brandenburg Elementary in Irving needed the flags for the school repaired, he called my mom, and she said “of course”, and then she looked up the official etiquette concerning flag repair. When my third-grade teacher, Mrs. Barnes, asked her to sew 125 snowman hand puppets for all of the third graders for the Christmas program, she simply asked, “When do you need them?” And when the Tejas Council for the Girl Scouts said, “We have eight girls who don’t have a troop to join,” she said, “We meet on Tuesdays at 4pm, send them to us.” There was never any hesitation if it meant making a situation better for children and I think about that example every time I get to visit with someone about the Forney Education Foundation.
Who is your “Because”? We all become better stewards for the future of students in Forney ISD when we think about those who have made our lives better. Won’t you go to www. forneyisdfoundation.org and share your story with us? Honoring the shining examples in our lives truly lights the way for teaching and learning.
