Adjustments to the 2022-23 school calendar extend Winter Break for students by one day while adding teacher classroom prep without extending the school year December 12, 2022 CISD Trustees voted to accept administrative recommendations and amend the 2022-23 school calendar at Monday night’s regular board meeting. The changes will allow extended cleaning of campuses during the upcoming Winter Break, along with additional prep and planning days for teachers during the spring semester.

The district was able to make the changes without adding any days to the school year by utilizing banked instructional minutes built into the calendar. Trustees last night approved four days from those banked minutes as new teacher prep and planning opportunities. Impacted dates include:

•January 4 – Teacher prep and planning (Student holiday)

•February 3 – Teacher prep and planning (Student holiday)

•February 17 – Teacher prep and planning (Student holiday, was previously an early release day)

•March 3 – Teacher prep and planning (Student holiday)

•March 31 – Teacher prep and planning (Student holiday) Students will not attend school on the above prep and planning days.

Winter Break is now extended one day for students, who will not return to campuses until January 5. The additional day away from school will allow more intensive cleaning with the recent surge in flu, RSV and Covid cases.

One additional change is creating a districtwide early release on May 24 to accommodate graduation ceremonies for Crandall High School.
