The Door - Life & Pregnancy Resource Center recently had its official opening with a ribbon cutting and an opportunity for the community to tour the facility located at 1330 FM 740. The opening was the culmination of a journey over the past two and a half years that originated in the hearts of Shelley Hunt, Alaina Bell, Marilyn Ellis, Paige Ellis, and Vonnie Salguero. From the hearts of these five, the ministry has taken root in 27 volunteers and workers who keep the Center open during the week as well as workers who gave time to remodel the facility and as board members giving guidance to the ministry’s mission. In addition, the ministry has over 100 prayer partners and a number of other individuals in various supportive roles.

The mission of The Door - Life & Pregnancy Resource Center is to share the love of Jesus Christ by providing supportive resources and life skills training to individuals who are impacted by pregnancy. The Door is open on Monday 10 am - 7 pm, Tuesday 9 am to 5 pm and Thursdays 10 am to 8 pm.

Vonnie Salguero is the only paid staff and is currently serving as the Interim Director. She is also currently the Client Services Director. Vonnie previously was the Resident Services Director at Interfaith Family Services in Dallas. The Door is also guided by a board of local individuals. When asked about her role at The Door, Vonnie said that she was happy and excited to serve in the Kaufman County area providing help to clients before, during, and after pregnancy. The Door is not just about helping with birth only, but also with life skills before and after the birth.

At the ribbon cutting Rev. Marty Reid led in prayer, and Noah Yeldell from State Representative Keith Bell’s office presented a certificate of recognition. Vonnie Salguero and Shelley Hunt cut the ribbon. The board members, volunteers and workers were recognized. The event ended with a time of food, fellowship and a silent auction.
