The FHS Percussion Ensemble played a showcase concert at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Indianapolis. Being invited to this event is a testimony to the elite status of the FHS Percussion Ensemble and the hard work of the students. On Thursday of the Convention they started the day’s events playing to a standing room only crowd.
The journey to PASIC started last year when the ensemble under the leadership of Director Rylie Warren and Percussion Specialist Shannon Jacobs entered a live recording to a competition judged by a panel of 5 PASIC judges. FHS Percussion was competing with percussion groups from all over the United States. They were one of only three high schools accepted to play a showcase concert at the convention.
The students spent hundreds of hours in preparation for this event on top of the hours spent on their marching band and academic responsibilities. The music was challenging and put the depth of their talent on full display. This was a once in a lifetime event for these students. A school is not eligible to compete again for 3 more years.
Mr. Warren said, ”I could not be more proud of the incredible students of the Forney High School Percussion Ensemble for their outstanding performance at this year’s Percussive Arts Society International Convention. Their enduring work-ethic, diligence, and determination earned them high acclaim at the international conference, attended annually by over 5000 professional musicians, percussionists, and students alike. Throughout the convention, our students were constantly approached by convention goers, who congratulated them on their show-stopping and impressive performance. Our students deserve all the praise in the world for the way they represented themselves, the Forney High School Band, Forney High School, and Forney ISD.”
