In 1870, Christmas was declared a federal holiday and is now one of the most popular holidays in the United States, as well as being widely celebrated in other countries.

But Christmas isn’t the only holiday celebrated during the winter season. There is a plethora of other holidays that are culturally significant to their countries of origin, some of which have festivities that far exceed even the most ostentatious Christmas celebrations.

From religious festivals to ceremonies honoring the change of seasons, as well as secular events that take place in many different countries, these holidays are celebrated on a national and local level, religious days, and long-standing cultural traditions.

The many different cultures that make up the fabric of Forney ISD are one of the many facets that make this district so amazing. Forney Education Foundation is enthused about discovering all of the wonderful riches that the various cultures bring to the table for all of the students in Forney ISD.

When the Grant train rolled through the district, it was wonderful to see all of the differences and similarities between all of the campuses. And it really made it clear how important it was to stop and listen and understand why the parents chose to bring their families to this district. Many people with school age children move to Forney for the school district even though it means the parents have to commute to work in Dallas or beyond.

Never has it been more apparent to the Foundation how important teachers are to the success of their students, especially in making them feel welcome and belonging to the Forney Family.

There are two great ways to connect with the Forney Family coming up on December 10. The first thing is the 4th Annual Antlers and TuTus Fun Run from FEF sponsored by Smoothie King and happening at Johnson Elementary. Then, after that is the Big Pink Volleyball Tournament starting at 10 a.m. also at Johnson Elementary. Visit www.forneyisdfoundation. org and register today!
