Elaine Norcross of Forney, TX received three Honorable Mentions in Creative Arts at the 2022 State Fair of Texas.

Mrs. Norcross grew up attending county fairs in Ohio with her mother, and from those early experiences Elaine grew to appreciate all of the talents of people around her, from 4-H to arts and crafts, and everything in between. A few years ago, while attending the State Fair of Texas, Elaine was struck with inspiration while viewing the countless arts and crafts which were entered into the Fair. It was then that Norcross had a realization. “I realized I could do things like that!” she recalls. In fact, Norcross was already experienced in crafting beautiful glass creations as a hobby, so she determined then to enter some of her works of art into a future fair.

This year, Elaine joined around 7,000 other entries into the Fair when she entered a photo and three glass art pieces. Her glassware crafts consist of things like vases, serving dishes, bird baths, and candle holders that are made from glass recyclable. The three items Norcross chose to enter are vases that can be inverted to function as a potpourri bowl or miniature bird bath. Each of Mrs. Norcross’s entries received Honorable Mentions in their categories, which included Recycled/ Found Items and Assemblage.

As Elaine continues to use her creativity to construct beautiful glassware crafts, she encourages others to find what talents they have. “Arts and crafts are a great way for people to relax,” she reminds. “We can all benefit from relaxing at the end of a long day.”
