The Forney Jackrabbits hosted the Tyler Lions in the final game of the regular season at City Bank Stadium last Friday night. The Jackrabbits were celebrating Senior Night in front of another sellout crowd. This 57-13 victory cemented the Jackrabbits’ undefeated record at City Bank Stadium this season.
Tyler entered the game after getting pounded by Longview 42-3 the previous week. The Lions came to the contest 2-7 on the season. The Jackrabbits entered the game after beating McKinney North last week in a rain-soaked contest, and they sought to send their Seniors out on a high note before playoffs begin. Meanwhile, Tyler showed up last week looking for answers as to what their recipe for success would be, but they would not find any answers in this blowout. The Forney Defense has been stellar aside from 3 games this season and looked to continue their dominance against an athletic Tyler Offense. The Jackrabbit Offense could not be stopped all night long.
The Jackrabbits scored at will on the Tyler Defense. The scoring began early in the first quarter with Quarterback #3 Kyle Crawford experiencing some pressure and throwing a quick 46-yard pass to #10 Kofi Eduful for a touchdown. This would set the tone for the entire night. Kyle Crawford threw multiple touchdown passes over the course of the game, including a 35-yard pass to #6 Will Wimberly, a 45-yard pass completed to #8 Alijah Merkson, and a 19-yard pass completed to #4 Ronnie Harrison. The offensive success was not simply at the hands of Crawford, though. Midway through the first quarter, the Jackrabbits blocked an extra point and returned it for a two-point score. Aaron Flowers had the return for the score. #35 Kevin Espinal also had a 17-yard
Rushing TD in the first quarter. #13 Ashton Ford scored later in the contest with a 9-yard Rushing TD. A busy first half wrapped up with 36 points for Forney and 6 points for Tyler.
The second half, while relatively less eventful on the scoreboard, was still full of scoring plays for the Rabbits. #7 Brent Paine threw a 16-yard pass in the third quarter to #18 Alex Perin for a touchdown to make the score 49-6. Kevin Espinal concluded the scoring in the fourth with a 40-yard rushing touchdown. Tyler also had a touchdown in the fourth quarter, bringing the final score to 57-13.
The Jackrabbits, now 7-3, will advance to the playoffs this week. Forney will make the nearly 4-hour drive to the Houston area to face the Barbers Hill Eagles, who also have a 7-3 record. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm on Friday, November 11.
