52 Grants Awarded to Forney ISD Teachers Totaling $115,000
The week of October 24th, The Forney Education Foundation awarded 52 grants to Forney ISD teachers for a total of $115,000 making it the biggest disbursement by the teaching grant program to date. Forney ISD teachers began applying for funding of their innovative projects in the classroom in September and 53% have been funded this year. There is still time to adopta- grant for a teacher who has not yet been awarded and provide them the supplies they need for their project. Requests this year included science lab equipment, robotics materials, fine art supplies, special education equipment, items for Pre-K programs, theater equipment and more. Members of the Foundation Board of Directors surprised teachers last week with big checks and celebrated their amazing work in the classroom. Every campus in Forney ISD received at least one grant this year and more grants are expected to be funded through the generous support of partners in the community. This year’s current adopters include: Claybon PTO, Criswell PTO, Warren PTO, Cooper’s Cottage Childcare, Inspiration Roofing and Construction, Madre’s Cocina, the Salgado Family and the Turner Family. Beginning in the fall of 2008, the Foundation launched the Innovative Grant Program for Forney ISD teachers, administrators and staff to recognize and support innovative instructional programs and initiatives which will positively impact the students of Forney ISD.
