Last week in Forney ISD, it was Red Ribbon Week for the entire district. With all of the dress up days the same, it made it extra fun to see the creativity across all the schools of the teachers and students. And the board members for the Forney Education Foundation boarded the Grant Train on Tuesday and Friday!

I have said it before but, for me, two of the best days in the school year are the days that the Grant Train rolls through the district awarding the funded grants to the teachers that requested them. And this year did not disappoint!

The genuine reactions that teachers show us when they realize that their request was funded is heart lifting. And then their students get excited as well. The level of enthusiasm is equal to the grade level - the younger the student, the more enthusiastic response (except for the Pre-K because they simply had never seen adults be this noisy in their schools!).

This year, FEF set another record in number of grants awarded as well as amount. Thanks to our donors throughout the year, as well as a number of community members and PTOs, there were 52 grants awarded in the amount of $115,000. We look forward to seeing these grants in action as the school year progresses and to hearing the stories of how impactful they will be for the students.

Thank you to Claybon ES PTO, Warren MS PTO, Madres’ Cocina “The Original Mexican Food”, Innovation Roofing/Construction LLC, the Salgado Family, and the Turner Family for adopting grants this year! The Foundation knows we cannot do what we do without the commitment of the Forney Family to bettering the educational experience for the students in FISD.

There is still the opportunity to adopt a grant through November 18. How, you might ask? Simply go to www.forneyisdfoundation. org and read through the descriptions. Then you can commit to the funding or just donate any amount; there is no amount too small or too large!
