The North Forney Falcons dropped their third district game in a row to the Mesquite Skeeters, 49 to 28, last Friday night. North Forney came to the matchup with a 3-4 record. Mesquite, the host of the night, had three losses as their most recent three games.

The Falcons scored first on a nice opening drive but then threw an interception that Mesquite returned to the 1-yard line and scored two plays later. The Falcons would be in chase the rest of the game, keeping within 7 to 14 points most of the game.

Mike Phillips would be 8 for 19 for 172 yards, 1 TD, and 1 int passing and 11 rushes for 89 yards and 2 TDs. Tylan Crochett would lead all receivers with 5 catches for 130 yds and 1 TD. Crochett would also have 7 rushes for 32 yds and 1 TD.

Offensive Coordinator Vasquez said he was glad to be able score 28 considering the injury situation we were playing with this week. Earnest Thomas and several of the OL were out this week but look to return this next week.

Head Coach Eric Luster expressed concern that the offense only had 50 or so plays but the defense was on the field for 98 snaps. Luster said, “We have to get off the field on 3rd downs, and we can’t give first downs on offsides penalties. Our offense needs to have more sustained drives, even if we don’t score, just to help the defense and keep the opposing offense off the field.”

LB Gray had 17 tackles while LB Langston Howell had 13 tackles and 2 pass breakups. Standout Corner #1 Amahii Branch had another well-played game, as did # 7 Ryan Wallace at safety.

It was a tough loss, but DC Coach Booker expressed the same concerns about getting off the field on 3rd downs. “We had improvements with some of our younger players, and we played well in spurts but the word of the day is consistency. We have to believe in the system and do what we are taught to do consistently, and the wins will come. We have to go 1 and 0 this week.”
