Crandall was on the road last week playing a very fast and run-heavy Terrell Tigers team. It was homecoming night for the Tigers, and a lot was riding on this district matchup. Whoever won this game would separate themselves from the rest of the pack with two district games remaining.
After a tough loss to Lovejoy the previous week, Crandall was looking to come back with a vengeance to finish out the season. In order to qualify for the playoffs, you must be one of the top four teams in your district. Crandall sat in third place entering last Friday’s game.
The Pirates would receive the ball to start out the game on their own 25-yard line. Quarterback Luke Moffitt put together a good first drive with a healthy mix of the run and pass game to the Tigers 35-yard line. It was a windy fourth and two, so Coach Hardin decided to go for it. The try was unsuccessful, giving the ball to the Tigers. Terrell would run the ball like they know how for ten out of twelve plays on the drive. Crandall’s defense didn’t have an answer until backed up on their own nine-yard line. The defensive line stepped up, stopping the run and pass game and forcing a field goal. The Pirates pressure from the outside forced Terrell’s kicker to miss wide left, keeping the score 0-0.
Moffitt would have a long field to work with from Crandall’s own nineyard line. The dynamic duo of Abron and Anderson in the backfield would pay dividends again this game. Anderson rushed the ball the first two carries for 18 yards and drew a 15-yard facemask penalty. This set up Chris Abron for the 15-yard rushing touchdown. The Pirates went for two and were successful with Moffitt running it in from three yards out. Crandall led 8-0 with two minutes left in the first quarter.
Terrell would come out ready to go with a sevenplay scoring drive of their own. The Pirates gave up a costly 15-yard penalty late in the drive and allowed 55 yards on the ground. Terrell would knot it all up at 8-8 with a successful twopoint play of their own.
