It is so gratifying to be a member of the Board for the Forney Education Foundation. The opportunity to meet enthusiastic, dedicated teachers and staff members of Forney ISD happens frequently – and no better time than when the Grant Train rolls through the district, stopping at the various campuses and awarding the teachers their requested grants.
By knowing the behindthe- scenes activities that take place to get to those two days in the school year, board members are very appreciative of the thought that has gone into the request and the potential impact on the students that will benefit from the grant itself. You see, the teacher looks for ways to improve and enhance the learning levels for their students. Then, they submit the idea to their principal. If the principal approves, the grant idea then goes to the Administration to make sure that it follows the guidelines established by FISD and, if approved there, then it comes to the Foundation for the Grant Committee to review and decide on funding. And believe me when I say, there is work involved on the Committee’s end to determine which grants to fund. However, some of the ideas are so amazing and wonderful that they elicit an immediate response to fund them and make us look forward to awarding them to that teacher.
How can you get to participate in these wonderful days? It is a simple process of visiting the website, www.forneyisdfoundation. org, and reading the descriptions of this year’s grants and choosing one to fund. Or, if you want to let your donation enhance the grant process as a whole, there is an opportunity at the end of the descriptions to donate a specific amount. Please let me reiterate that no amount is too small or too large! The largest group of contributors as a whole is the teachers in Forney ISD; the minimum they contribute from their paychecks is $5 per check monthly. They know that a little bit from a large number of contributors makes a huge difference! Join them today for the future of the students in Forney, you could be the “One”.
