The Forney Jackrabbits made the quick trip to Lancaster for their seventh game of the year against the #8 Ranked Lancaster Tigers last Friday night. Lancaster entered the game after hammering John Tyler the previous week, 55-6. The Jackrabbits entered the game coming off their first district loss against undefeated Longview. The Jackrabbits sought to get back on the right side of the win column while Lancaster was attempting to further cement their position as #2 in the district.
The Jackrabbit Offense was hoping to return to form against the Tigers, however the Tigers had other plans. The Forney Defense had a tall order as they hoped to contain the potent Tiger Offense and their Air Raid attack.
Forney fans were hopeful as the game began. The Rabbits kicked off to the Tigers and, after a quick four downs, Forney got the ball a minute and a half into the game. A beautiful pass and a gain of about 25 yards preceded the Rabbits’ only score of the game: a touchdown by Jayden Brown. At the PAT, a wild snap led to a great attempt by the kicker to pass the ball, but it was unfortunately unsuccessful. Forney was up at this point, 6-0, but that would prove to be the only time of the night. Lancaster answered the Rabbits’ 6 points with 7 of their own that quarter, followed by 28 points in the second quarter, 14 in the third, and 7 in the fourth for a final score of 56-6.
Lancaster proved why they are heralded as one of the top ten teams in 5A as they defeated the Jackrabbits.
The Jackrabbits, now 4-3, will look to strengthen their hopes for a playoff spot when they host North Mesquite this Friday night for their annual homecoming game. Kickoff is set for 7pm, but fans should plan to arrive early to secure a seat and enjoy the homecoming pregame activities. Tickets are on sale online at jackrabbitathletics.com. For anyone who can’t make it to the game, free live coverage is provided every week on sportsgram.net.
