Crandall would start off with great field position thanks to a kickoff return to the Lions’ 44 yard line by junior receiver Logan Wilbanks. After four straight rushes, Moffitt attacked the secondary through the air. Moffitt connected with junior running back Andrew Anderson for a 29-yard touchdown reception.
Crandall’s defense did not have an answer in the first quarter for Simpson and the Lions offense. The Lions completed three passes in a row for 75 yards and a touchdown. Greenville led 13-10 at the end of the first quarter.
Both sides of the ball would come alive for the Pirates in the second quarter. First, by Moffitt leading the Pirate offense on a long sixteen-play drive and three-yard rushing touchdown by senior running back Chris Abron. The Pirate defense would give up the only score of the second quarter to the quick Simpson on a 47-yard rushing touchdown. This would be the last time Greenville in the game, 20-17.
Moffitt fed the ball to Anderson on the first play of the drive for a 60-yard rushing touchdown. Crandall led 24-20. The Pirate defense made a big stand, forcing the first punt of the game. Moffitt would make quick work on this drive with a 17-yard rush to start off. The second play was a 58-yard rushing touchdown for Abron. Both Abron and Anderson had two touchdowns each at halftime, showing how important the running back position is for Crandall. Crandall led at the half 31-20.
Greenville would get the ball to start the second half. Simpson would drive the Lions down the field on a long ten-play scoring drive that took almost half the quarter. Lions’ kicker Archer Odeneal would make the 37-yard field goal bringing the score to Crandall 31, Greenville 23.
The Pirates dug themselves deep into their own territory needing to gain 25 yards for the first down. Moffitt took it in stride with three straight completions for 69 yards. Three plays later, Moffitt would hit senior Samuel Omosigho in stride for a 26-yard touchdown reception. Crandall’s lead grew to 38-23.
Crandall’s defense came alive forcing their first three and out of the game. Moffitt led the Pirate offense on the field and scored immediled ately. Samuel Omosigho hit the slant route across the middle of the field and did the rest with his speed on a 75-yard touchdown reception. This made the score Crandall 45, Greenville 23.
The Coach Lewis-led Pirate defense came out with another strong defensive stand, forcing a three and out again. For the second offensive series in a row, the Pirates would score on the first play of the drive! Moffitt handed the ball off to Anderson for the 82-yard rushing touchdown! Crandall led 52-23 late in the third quarter.
Brandon Perez would knock in a 31-yard field goal to start the fourth quarter. Crandall would give up a touchdown to Simpson late in the fourth making the score Crandall 55, Greenville 36. The Pirates would add another score for good measure off a 55-yard rushing touchdown by Anderson. This was his fourth touchdown on the night! Crandall ended the game with 404 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground and in the air by Anderson and Abron. Crandall won with ease 62-36 over Greenville.
Crandall takes on Lovejoy this Friday at Pirate Stadium. This is a huge district matchup and a redemption game for the Pirates coming off last year’s first round playoff defeat to the Leopards.
