Crandall was on the road this week after a muchneeded break on their bye week. The Pirates came into this week 1-1 in district play, only behind Melissa and Lovejoy. They will need to win each game from here on out in order to stay within reach.

The community of Crandall came out in full support for Crandall High School’s cheer squad, band, dance, and football teams Friday night. Senior varsity cheerleader Peyton Jones passed away in a tragic car accident Thursday, October 6th. Crandall’s helmets sported a PEY J megaphone sticker in support of their beloved teammate. The fans, cheerleaders, and band were wearing green and purple, which were Peyton’s favorite colors.

Coach Hardin’s Pirates lost the coin toss and would receive the ball to start the game. Senior quarterback Luke Moffitt connected with senior tight end AJ Mayfield on the third play of the drive for a 47-yard completion. Following a holding penalty and three straight incompletions, the Pirates were forced to attempt a field goal. Senior kicker Brandon Perez sailed it through the uprights from 41 yards out. The Pirates led 3-0 early in the first.

The Pirates defense trotted onto the field with a tough task in hand. Lions senior quarterback Micah Simpson has great stats due to his quick speed and ability to escape the pocket. On the sixth play of the drive, Simpson took the ball straight up the middle on a designed run putting them in scoring position. Four plays later, Simpson would connect with senior
