The Forney Jackrabbits made the nearly two-hour drive to Longview last Friday night for their sixth game of the year against the undefeated Lobos. Both teams entered the game after their respective bye weeks, but Longview appeared prepared for the Jackrabbits who had been cruising for the last four games. The Jackrabbits entered the game on a four-game winning streak after handling Lufkin at home before their bye week.
Despite the long drive, Forney fans really showed up for the Jackrabbits, filling in at least half of the visitors’ side of the stands. The other half of the visitors’ stands, as well as nearly all of the home side stands, was full of loud, proud Longview fans.
The Jackrabbit Offense had been having a stellar season prior to encountering the Lobo Defense. Likewise, the Forney Defense had tightened up after their season opener against Crandall, the only other loss the team has had this season.
Last Friday night, Longview proved why they are consistently in the mix for state title contention with their ground and pound mentality. The number one ranked 5A high school team in Texas, the Lobos came into the game hot, scoring three times in the first quarter alone. By the end of the first half, Longview had put 39 points on the board.
The Jackrabbits had one touchdown in the 46-7 loss. Ronnie Harrison reeled in a touchdown pass in the first quarter, but these would be the only points the Rabbits could get on the board last Friday. There were not many other bright spots for the Jackrabbits in the game. Defensive Tackle Christian Thomas had a gutsy performance defensively in the contest.
