While our campuses still teach the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic, there is so much more that goes into one school day. From transportation, to hot meals, to a high five or a meaningful conversation, there are people that genuinely care and want the best for each and every student at Forney ISD. While making sure we instill the knowledge and skills that our schools provide, we also make resources and connections available to our students and their families to ensure they are receiving the best education possible. With the trauma our Forney Family has endured the past two years, it is important that these supports are in place in case a need arises and to help bridge the gap caused by Covid.
Net Philosophy
In Forney ISD, we believe in the net philosophy. As students learn and grow, they may fall, and it’s our duty to provide “safety nets” with a plan in place to help catch them and set them back on track for their plan and purpose. But we can’t do it alone. It takes the help of our community, all of our staff, parents, grandparents, guardians, families, churches, service organizations, businesses - ALL of us - to build nets for our students.
Culture of Excellence Specialists Across the district, Forney has a total of 14 Culture of Excellence Specialists in place to provide support to our staff and students.
These specialists are equipped with the skills and techniques needed to support and mentor their colleagues through Process Champions with Capturing Kids Hearts. They help teachers manage the pressure of maintaining positive student growth while facing barriers caused by social, environmental and behavioral conflicts.
Community and Organization Support Forney ISD recognizes the need for connections between our schools and the community. It is important to develop and maintain relationships in order to work together to continuously improve culture and student achievement throughout the district. One way to do this is by partnering with faithbased organizations in the area to assist in providing a safe and secure environment for all students. Our campuses also offer a variety of ways to connect with students by partnering with organizations including Big Brother Big Sister, and through volunteer opportunities with Men and Women of Honor, FCA Character Coaches, and by joining your campus PTO group. Nick Edwards, Forney ISD’s Director of Staff and Family Services, is working to build a seamless bond between our schools and Forney Family by creating safe and effective ways to bring them together. Volunteer opportunities can be found by visiting https:// app.vomo.org/org/forneyisd.
Be The One.
Who’s Your One?
The district will be recognizing members of the Forney Family for being outstanding role models and support systems to others within our schools or the community. The “Be The One. Who’s Your One?” campaign will encourage leadership and guidance and create a ripple effect of making a difference by helping others throughout Forney ISD. This will create a climate of kindness and supporting each other, as well as build relationships between members of the community and the staff and students on our campuses. If you know someone who is “The One” supporting and inspiring others, nominate them by filling out the form: Be The One. Who’s Your One?.
Community Service and Public Information Officer Having served the last two years with the Forney ISD police department, Officer Paul Cuara will also now serve as the Community Service and Public Information Officer. He is active within our community and a constant positive police presence on our campuses. It is essential to the climate of our schools that our students and parents form meaningful relationships with our law enforcement officers to create an environment where they feel safe and comfortable. Officer Cuara works as a liaison between the Forney ISD Police Department and the community to establish a rapport with the students, parents and citizens. His goal is to enhance partnerships between the Police Department and the community that are crucial to the implementation of crime reduction programs and initiatives.
Goodside Health
In addition to the social and emotional resources, Forney ISD has partnered with Goodside Health to bring SchoolMed on demand telehealth services to our schools to support our nursing staff. If students become ill at school, this service provides a convenient and effective way to have your child assessed, diagnosed and treated in the school nurse’s office at little to no cost to families. This helpful tool will allow parents to get their children the health services they need without having to leave work. To register your child for Goodside Health at their school, visit https://patient. pond.md/forneyisd.
Forney ISD, in collaboration with our community partners, offers additional tangible supports for families throughout the year, such as the Back to School backpack and supply giveaway, Lions Club Angel Tree program and Forney ISD Season of Giving, Lions Club vision screenings and clinic, Forney ISD monthly vaccine hub, uniform clothes closet at First Presbyterian Church, weekend food backpack program with the Forney Food Pantry, and much more. Please ask your campus counselor for additional information.
