The North Forney Falcons faced the Royse City Bulldogs last week, with the Falcons entering the game 3-2 and the Bulldogs 2-2.
The excitement was in the air for the Falcons as they fought to stay on track for their playoff bid, but once again it was the tale of two halves.
In the first half, the Falcon offense kept the Falcons within 1 score as the defense struggled to adjust to the Bulldogs’ multitude of formations. The Bulldog defense was stubborn, and the Falcons had to earn every yard to keep the score to a 21-14 halftime score.
After the half, the adjustments by DC Coach Booker definitely made a difference as the Falcon defense only gave up 1 touchdown the second half, and that came when a Falcon defender fell on a deep pass from the Bulldogs. The Falcon defense had 4 straight stops after that mishap. The Falcon offense was able to drive the ball effectively but struggled in the red zone and just could not come away with points.
As the game continued, the Bulldog offense maintained time of possession and was able to put a time crunch on the Falcon offense. The Falcon offense had to open up the playbook in the pass game but that gave the Bulldogs the opportunity to really bring pressure on QB Mike Phillips, sacking and/or pressuring him the entire 4th quarter.
After the game, Head Coach Eric Luster was disappointed and said, “We really are going to have to get to the next level and continue to stay all in when it comes to being a playoff caliber team.” Luster challenged the team on how they will respond to adversity and what will they do this week in practice to get to that next level.
The Falcons get a bye week this week, but district play doesn’t get any easier as they play the Rockwall Yellowjackets next week. The Falcons vs the Yellowjackets will be a home game at City Bank Stadium on Friday, Oct. 14, with kickoff at 7pm. The team needs your help and support at the game, so make sure and be there to cheer them on.
