Last Thursday night, the North Forney Falcons hosted Mesquite ISD’s John Horn Jaguars at City Bank Stadium. The game of the week did not disappoint all those who came out to the stadium or tuned into CW33. It was a tale of the defenses and special teams for both teams. Each team has very explosive offenses, but the defenses were at another level Thursday for the Falcons’ Homecoming.

John Horn running back Titus Muse Jr. led the Jags with over 1000 yards rushing coming into the game and scoring 35 points a game. The Falcons also have big time weapons in Senior QB Phillips, running back DJ Jones and wide receivers Thomas and Crochell averaging 35 points a game as well.

It would be the Falcon defense that would keep the Falcons in the game with two fumble recoveries for touchdowns. Langston Howell would take the first recovery to the house from 45 yards out, and then Rubio Gustavo would do the same right before the half to keep the Falcons within one score.

The Falcons would go on to hold the Jags to 240 total yards of offense with 78 passing and 162 rushing to hold the offense to its lowest offensive output for the year. Unfortunately the Jaguar defense would injure running back DJ Jones in the first half, limiting the run game to 83 yards for the Falcons. Phillips played well but was held to 194 yards passing and 3 interceptions.

It would be the special teams that would create the biggest advantage to the Jags by blocking a field goal, 2 extra points and a punt. The Jaguars also had great field position all night from their return teams giving their offense short fields for much of the night.

Head Coach Eric Luster said he was proud of the fight in the team and, “although we lost we learned a lot about who we are and what we need to do to take it to the next level.”

DC Gordon Booker said, “I am very proud of the defensive effort. But we lost, and that is not what we work so hard to do. It’s a long season, and we have to keep getting better at what  we do every day if we want the outcome we are working so hard for.”

The Falcons take on the 2-2 Royse City Bulldogs this Friday at Royse City for district game number 2. Come out and give the team your support!
