The Forney Jackrabbits hosted the Lufkin Panthers for their Week 5 Matchup at City Bank Stadium last Friday night. Lufkin entered the game with only one loss on the season, while the Jackrabbits entered the game on a three-game winning streak after dismantling West Mesquite the week before. The Jackrabbit Offense continued to prove they are a formidable force, thanks to weapons like Javian Osborne, Ronnie Harrison, and Kofi Eduful. Lufkin made the nearly three-hour trip and was greeted by a sellout crowd at City Bank Stadium. The crowd marks the second time this season that City Bank Stadium was sold out.

The contest began with a somewhat stagnant first quarter, as each team held the other on the field without allowing much advancement. Neither team managed to put points on the board until Forney’s Offense began scoring in the second quarter. But once the Rabbits got started, there was very little the Panthers Defense could do to stop them. The Jackrabbits had several touchdowns in the contest, but it seemed as though Lufkin had no adjustments to the formations being presented by Forney. The first TD of the game was the result of a fake handoff by Quarterback Kyle Crawford that he then ran in for the score. Crawford once again proved to be a threat on the ground with rushing touchdowns in both the second and fourth quarters. Wide Receiver Ronnie Harrison had another good performance, reeling in a touchdown pass from Kyle Crawford in the second quarter. QB Brent Paine also had a rushing touchdown and passing touchdown on the night.

The sold out stands of Forney fans who came out hoping to watch a great game were not disappointed, as the Jackrabbits kept the crowd on the edges of their seats throughout the night. With an interception and multiple recovered fumbles throughout the game, the defense didn’t let up until the last second ran off the clock. That notable defensive effort combined with an incredible offensive showing on the ground and in the air made for an allaround entertaining game to watch.

Notable performances from the matchup include Junior Luke Rodriguez, a defensive tackle who intercepted the ball to ignite the sellout crowd early in the game. Running Backs Javian Osborne, Jayden Brown, and Kevin Espinal continued to cement themselves as one of the better stables of Running Backs in the area.

The Jackrabbits (4-1) have a week off this week before continuing district play against Longview. The Rabbits will travel to take on the Lobos on Friday, October 7.
