The North Forney Falcons won last Friday night against Woodrow Wilson High School, 41 to 20. Head Coach Eric Luster said, “We love the win, but we still have not played our best game yet. There are still things we need to clean up.” As a matter of fact, most of the coaches felt like there is more in the tank for every aspect of our game.
That being said, the offensive play has been really exciting and very explosive with the play of QB Mike Phillips who was 8 of 13 for 284 yards, 4 TDs passing, 9 rushes for 78 yards, and 2 TDs rushing. The offense’s total production was once again over 500 yards.
Phillips really spread the ball around this week especially to #17 Tamarion Crochett who had 3 catches for 188 yards and 2 TDs, #2 Earnest Thomas who had 1 catch for 36 yards and a TD, and #11 JeQuarian Robinson with 2 catches for 48 yards and a touchdown. Trey Johnson and DJ Jones also had catches. The leading rusher on the night was none other than #5 DJ Jones who had 99 yards on 16 carries. DJ has been very consistent with his play and was very difficult to tackle, with an average over 8 yards a carry against Wilson.
The defense also played well but still had issues here and there that allowed an early score and one sustained drive for points to end the half. In the second half, the Fly defense really stepped up holding Wilson to 20 points for the game. Defensive Coordinator Gordon Booker was happy for the win but he “really felt the defense could have played much better.”
Leading the defensive with 9 tackles was once again #13 Jaylin Gray. Sack leaders against Wilson were #88 Patilla with 2, #55 Rubio with 1, and Brandon Murphy with 1. One of our defensive stand outs for the game was Cornerback #1 Amai Branch who has been consistently drawing our opponents best and shutting them down.

It is homecoming for the Falcons, so there have been festivities every day. Head Coach Eric Luster said, “Homecoming is a great time in a player’s career but staying focused is a must. We need to keep the main thing the main thing.”
