The Forney Jackrabbits made the short trip to Mesquite Memorial Stadium for their Week 4 Matchup against the West Mesquite Wranglers last week. West Mesquite was celebrating their homecoming and entered the game on a three game winning streak, thanks in part to their potent Offense. The Jackrabbits entered the game after demolishing Mesquite Poteet the previous week.
The Jackrabbit Offense scored on several big plays in the contest. The Jackrabbits had several touchdowns in the contest, seemingly scoring at will. With three touchdowns in the first quarter alone, the Rabbits had clearly hit the field ready to play. That energy continued for the remainder of the night, with Forney scoring 23 more points during the game. Wide Receiver Ronnie Harrison had a huge night, reeling in multiple long yardage receptions, multiple ending in a touchdown. The Jackrabbits’ rushing attack continued to impress with three running backs having success on the ground. Quarterback Kyle Crawford saw significantly more playing time and proved to be a threat on the ground.
The Jackrabbits introduced the Wranglers to a level of Big Defensive Energy they have not seen before this season. By the middle of the second quarter, West was struggling to get in the game. However, their aggressive attempt to score only paid off in that quarter, as the Wranglers saw no more points added to the board for the rest of the game. The final score Friday night was 43-14.
Notable performances from the game include Junior Josh Gatlin who had multiple interceptions. Running Backs Javian Osborne, Jayden Brown, and Kevin Espinal all had success moving the ball against the Wranglers.
The Jackrabbits (3-1) look to continue their winning streak this week when they host District foe Lufkin at City Bank Stadium on September 23. Lufkin has the same 3-1 record as the Rabbits for the season but experienced their first loss last week, a grueling game All photos by EDDY TAYLOR
