the drive. The ball landed in the hands of Sooners commit Samuel Omosigho, who took it back to the Indians 22-yard line. Three plays later, Omosigho was rewarded with a 14-yard touchdown reception from Moffitt. Crandall was up 28-7 with six minutes remaining until halftime.
The Indians offense would control the ball for the rest of the half, scoring right before halftime. The score was 28-14 Crandall at the half.
The Indians adjusted some things at halftime and came out firing. They only needed seven plays and a 25-yard reception for the score. The Pirates’ lead was quickly shrinking before their eyes.
Crandall’s offense took the field and stalled on a fourth and one, turning the ball back over to the Indians. The Indians took advantage of that gift, knocking in a 34-yard field goal to make the score 28-24 Crandall. The score would remain the same at the end of three quarters.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, running back Andrew Anderson took the ball 29 yards to the endzone. This gave Crandall a 35-24 cushion with over 11 minutes remaining in the game.
The Pirate defense would come up in a big way on this possession. The Indians were about to score when Omosigho came off the edge and forced a fumble. Sophomore defensive end Hudson West scooped the ball up and ran it back the other way 80 yards for the touchdown! This score put the Pirates up 42-24 with ten minutes remaining in the game.
Jacksonville was not ready to throw in the towel just yet though. They drove down the field and scored out of the Wildcat formation from four yards out. This made the score 42-31 Crandall with eight and a half minutes left in the game.
This next series for the Pirate offense would be a tough one. Senior quarterback Luke Moffitt was injured on the third play of the drive. This forced Coach Hardin to bring in Sophomore quarterback Gauge Wickersham. Crandall would be forced to punt the next play. To make matters worse, the long snapper sent the ball over punter Brandon Perez’s head. Jacksonville would score one play later and fail on the two point conversion attempt. The score was 42-37 Crandall with six and a half minutes remaining.
Gauge Wickersham would come in clutch, extending the Pirates drive on a long third down completion. Crandall was able to run out the clock in victory formation.
The Crandall Pirates take on the Melissa Cardinals in Melissa. Gametime is set for 7:30pm Friday September 16th.
