By Adam Wardlaw Photos by Eddy Taylor The Forney Jackrabbits hosted the Poteet Pirates for their first home game of the year last Friday night at the nearly sold-out City Bank Stadium. The traditionally stout Poteet Pirates came into the game 0-2. The Pirate Offense looked discombobulated the entire evening, while the Jackrabbit Offense was able to score however they wanted during the contest. The Jackrabbit Defense returned to their dominant ways of old.

The Jackrabbits had a myriad of touchdowns, beginning with an interception only 4 minutes into the game that put Forney in position to score on the very next play. That exciting play was only the beginning, as the offense continued to dominate the field scoring five total touchdowns and a field goal in the first half alone. As the teams left the field for halftime, the score was 38-0 Jackrabbits.

The Rabbits showed no mercy as they repeated more of the same in the second half. Forney’s defensive line was brutal and held the Pirates, not allowing them a single point on the board. With the Pirates unable to score, Poteet’s defense attempted to stop the Jackrabbits but found no success there either. The Rabbits scored three more times in the second half, finally concluding the game with a recovered fumble that allowed them to watch the one remaining minute on the clock run out as the celebrations began.

The entire Jackrabbit team played hard and showed up last Friday. Quarterback Brent Payne threw for multiple passing touchdowns throughout the game, Wide Receiver Ronnie Harrison had a huge night, reeling in multiple long yardage receptions, and the Jackrabbits’ rushing attack was unstoppable. Four Running Backs had carries. So far this season, the feature backs were Javian Osborne and Jayden Brown. However, in this game, it was a slightly different story. Junior Running Back Kevin Espinal had a larger role and proved why his nickname is “Thunder” as he ran over Pirate Defenders.
