The Falcons took the field Friday night with a 1 and 1 record and an impressive win against Rowlett the previous week, but could they do it again? That question would be answered against the North Mesquite Stallions and their high-powered offense. The Falcons would win the game 31 to 14, but how they did it was what made it impressive. Head Coach Eric Luster would put it like this, “Last week was our first 6A win but this win tops it… This was a team win. Our offense moved the ball well and controlled the time of possession even though we stalled out 3 times in the red zone. Special teams kept the field position in our favor and caused turnovers, but the defense played their best game yet, scoring twice, and held an explosive offense to 14 points. The Falcon offense would rack up 365 total yards with Mike Phillips who would go 14 of 25 for 206 and 1 int passing and had 9 carries for 21 yards and 1 TD. Leading the way on the ground was DJ Jones with 25 carries for 111 yards, 1 TD, and he would also pull in 2 catches for 40 yards. Also contributing to the ball control was Trey Johnson with 4 carries for 24 yards. Leading receivers were Earnest Thomas with 5 catches for 58 yards, JaQuarian Robinson with 2 catches for 57 yards, LaDarrion Dean had 3 catches for 43 yards, and Luke Kee with 1 catch for 8 yards and a key first down. “Overall, I think we moved the ball well but we have to finish in the red zone,” said Offensive Coordinator Coach Velasquez.
