The rest of the second quarter would be a battle on defense. Both Crandall and Kaufman turned the ball over once and punted multiple times. The Pirates had one more offensive possession before halftime. Luke Moffitt connected with senior receiver Deondre Bowman on a 17-yard touchdown reception. Crandall led 28-3 going into halftime.
The Pirate defense, led by Coach Darryl Lewis, came out in the second half with another big stop giving the ball back to Luke Moffitt. On the fifth rush of the series, Abron took the handoff in from three yards out for the score.
Crandall’s defense reigned supreme as they forced another three and out leading to a Kaufman punt. The front seven held the Lions to only 109 yards rushing in the game and 200 yards of total offense. The success on defense, mixed with a strong rushing attack on all fronts by the Pirate offense, was too much for the Lions to handle. Abron would score his third rushing touchdown on the next drive from fifteen yards out. Crandall led 42-3.
The Pirates would give up a touchdown to Kaufman’s Johnathan Wrenn to end the third quarter. The only score in the fourth came from Brandon Perez who nailed a 35-yard field goal. The final score was Crandall 45, Kaufman 10.
The Pirate offensive backfield had a night to remember! Moffitt, Abron, Anderson, & Markel Robinson had a combined 325 yards rushing and five touchdowns. This, plus a strong passing game, will make the Pirates a threat in every game this season.
Crandall takes on Jacksonville tomorrow in the Tomato Bowl at 7:30 p.m.
