defensive line would keep the Eagles QB on his heels most of the night holding the Eagles to only 20 points with the last TD coming at the very end of the game. #13 Jaylen Grey and #12 Langston Howell would lead all tacklers, Grey with 9 and Howell 8. #88 Patilla sacked the Eagles QB twice and #55 Rubio, grading out a 95%, would be in relentless pursuit of the ball carriers all night.
Defensive Coordinator Gordon Booker was asked who the defensive player of the game was, he replied, “All 11.” He said, “We have a lot of work to do but this week was a definite improvement from last week’s performance.”
Late in the second quarter, Jones would rip off a 36-yard run to give the Falcons another chance for points on the Eagle 23. Two plays later Jones would scamper for 23 yards and a TD. Randall’s PAT would give the Falcons a 2-point lead, 16 to 14, at the half.
The second half would be all Falcons with Phillips hooking up with #2 Earnest Thomas 6 times for 86 yards and a TD and #11 Robinson 2 times for 55 yards and a TD. Phillips would end the night as Offensive Player of the Game going 13 of 22 for 214 yards passing and 3 TDs with 1 interception and rushing for 103 yards on 10 carries. Phillips would lead the Falcons to make history with their first win as a class 6A team.
Offensive Coordinator Coach Velasquez said, “Mike showed great composure working through the first half and really found his rhythm in the second half.” Both Phillips and Coach V credited the offensive line for their solid play all night.
When Head Coach Eric Luster was asked about his thoughts for the game, he said, “We won the game on Monday in practice. You can’t practice soft and expect to play hard. We had two great days of practice where we were intentional about tackling and getting the ball to our playmakers. The Eagles are a talented and well-coached team. We knew we had to fix our issues from week one. This win was great for our program, school, and community.”
Coach Luster was presented with the game ball that will be signed by all the players commemorating the win as the start of the North Forney Falcons tradition of excellence in class 6A.
The Falcons will take on the North Mesquite Stallions Thursday at Memorial Stadium in Mesquite. Come be part of the standard of excellence and support your Falcons.
