the endzone to the fouryard line. This is all junior running back Andrew Anderson needed for the score. Crandall led 17-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Turnovers plagued the Jackrabbits in the second quarter. Paine fumbled the ball on the third play of the drive, giving the Pirates great field position. Crandall punted after a three and out, and the return was muffed. Crandall recovered the ball on Forney’s 33-yard line. On the second play of the drive, Abron took the handoff 11 yards into the endzone. Crandall led 23-7. Both the Pirates and Jackrabbits would score two more times each. As the teams headed in to dry off, Crandall led 37-20.

The Pirates would return the favor with a muffed punt return of their own to start the second half. Forney would give it right back to the Pirates three plays later on a fumbled handoff. Crandall was forced to punt and had it blocked. The Jackrabbits took it in for a quick score. Anderson returned the favor with a 19-yard scoring run on the Pirates’ next drive. Crandall led 44-27.

This is the point in the game where Forney took control. Paine connected on a 21-yard touchdown throw. On the kickoff return, Crandall fumbled the ball giving Forney great field position. Paine ran it in himself three plays later for the score. Forney had a 14 point swing in a matter of 51 seconds! Crandall led 44-41.

The turnover woes were not done yet for Crandall. The kickoff return was fumbled yet again by the Pirates and ran back for the score. Forney led for the first time since the first quarter, 47-44. Needless to say, the next kickoff was fair caught by Crandall. Moffitt came onto the field composed and drove the Pirates down the field in convincing fashion. The drive ended on Anderson’s third rushing touchdown of the night. Crandall retook the lead 51-47 with six and a half minutes remaining.

Crandall tacked on another score making it 58-47, but Forney had no quit in them! The first play of Forney’s drive was an 80-yard touchdown pass with a converted twopoint conversion. Crandall led 58-55 with three and a half minutes remaining in the game. The Pirates were able to fend off the Jackrabbits defense and come out with the win.

Crandall takes on Kaufman in The Battle of 175 this Friday at 7:30pm in Crandall.
