penalties and the missed tackles began to mount up at the worst possible times for the Falcons, bailing out the Cats and giving up 10 additional points making the score 40 to 30. The score would remain 40 to 30 until a late fumble by the Falcons on their own 10-yard line would give the Cats their final last-minute touchdown to ice the game 47 to 30.
After the game Head Coach Eric Luster said he was proud of how the players fought back to tie the game at 30 late in the game. “I thought it showed real character to do that. We still have things to clean up, but our kids are really starting to be all in.”
Defensive Coordinator Gordon Booker said after the game, “We definitely need to work on our execution and tackling.”
Offensive Coordinator Coach V echoed that “execution needs to improve but he felt the kids fought hard.”
Offensive player of the game was DJ with 36 carries for 203 yards and 2 receptions for 56 yards and a TD. QB Mike Phillips was 7 for 17 for 93 yards, 2 TDs passing, 14 rushes for 118 yards, and a TD. Leading receivers were #2 Thomas with 2 receptions for 26 yards and a TD and #15 Oyedokun with 2 receptions for 14 yards and a TD. Kicker Collin Randal had 3 PATs and a 26-yard FG.
Defensive player of the game was Jaylon Gray who led the team with 10 tackles. Special Teams player of the game was Isiah Mayfield with a blocked punt.
