The Forney Jackrabbits traveled south to Crandall for their season opening game against the Pirates, a long-time rival of the Jackrabbits. Forney fans really turned out to see the showdown, filling the visitors’ stands to the brim and overflowing onto the sidewalks surrounding the field. Crandall has been known the last couple of years to be an offensive powerhouse, with Forney’s last two matchups against the Pirates resulting in multiple overtimes, so this event was guaranteed to be a great one to witness.
The Pirates Offense was able to capitalize on Jackrabbit turnovers and special team mistakes in the first half. By halftime, the Pirates had managed to gain a 17-point lead during a wet first half when a rainstorm rolled through creating some slippery playing conditions. After an unbelievable turn of events in the second half, the Jackrabbits at one point found themselves in the lead. The Rabbits continued to inch toward the win throughout the second half, but the Pirates answered each time with their own progress. The game was ultimately sealed when Crandall recovered a Jackrabbit fumble and returned it for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
The Jackrabbits had multiple touchdowns through the air to Wide Receiver Kofi Eduful. Aside from the costly late fumble, Freshman Running Back Javian Osborne had a brilliant debut for the Jackrabbits, racking up a plethora of rushing yards in the game.
Notable performances from the game include Wide Receiver Kofi Eduful, who reeled in multiple touchdown passes. Running Backs Javian Osborne and Jayden Brown compiled over 200 yards on the ground.
The Jackrabbits, starting the 100th season of the southside’s beloved mascot with an 0-1 record, seek their first win of the season tonight when they travel to Frisco for a Thursday night matchup against Frisco Memorial at Toyota Stadium, home of FC Dallas.
