You are in a wooded area you know and have decided to build a road where there was only a footpath. There are decisions to be made about which trees to remove and which side of the path you widen. Teaching is oftentimes building roads for your students to travel down as they are learning. But what if the equipment you have always used isn’t quite what is needed for this year’s students? And because you attended a conference for teaching in new, innovative ways, you have been made aware of a new “tool” that will help your students immensely, but it is not in the budget for your grade-level. What do you do? You remember that this is just the type of innovative education that the Forney Education Foundation funds through the teacherrequested grant program.
When the grant request window opens, many teachers take action and submit grants. The response is terrific and gratifying to the Board of Directors as the educational professionals in Forney ISD submit many innovative grant requests. The Board also wanted to be innovative and set up the Adopt-a-Grant program. This year the response from the community has been amazing, allowing FEF to fund more innovative grants than have been budgeted for in a calendar year.
One of the best things about these grants is they enable our teachers to forge new paths for their students enabling them to make great strides toward their futures. The teachers are incredible builders of future roads for their students to travel. Won’t you help build roads for the students in Forney ISD?
