The Bible does not reveal why GOD chose Abram, but it does show that GOD does not choose a person who is qualified to fulfill His will. He chooses a person and makes them qualified by His power. After we study about the life of Abram, we can see that GOD made the right choice. Through Abram and his son and grandson, GOD made a nation for Himself to be a witness to the rest of the world. Abram was not perfect, but the Bible says that Abram believed GOD and it was counted as righteousness. We can see later in Abram’s life that he did believe GOD because he was willing to kill his own son because GOD told him to. GOD did not allow Abram to actually kill his son but when GOD saw that Abram was willing to do it, He then knew that Abram would be the one to fulfill His will.
GOD knew that all people had received the sinful nature when Adam sinned against GOD in the Garden of Eden. GOD also knew that if He tried to choose out a people for Himself, they would not listen or obey Him. GOD had to set up a nation and allow them to go into slavery so He could rescue them and show His great power to them so they would believe and trust Him for their needs.
The nation of Israel was in hard bondage to the land of Egypt. Over 420 years passed, and nation of Israel grew to a great nation. The people of Egypt were afraid of Israel because there were so many. To stop their growing in number, they made slaves of Israel and made them work very hard to try to stop their growth. GOD had other plans for them and made them to continue to grow in number. As the time drew near to rescue Israel, GOD had already prepared a man to go to Egypt and carry out His plan.
BOTTOM LINE: Since GOD has all power in Heaven and earth, He does not need His people to try to be righteous by their works. Just “obey” Him….AMEN
