Body

Dear Aunt B Readers,

As I promised, we will discuss a good work ethic. The conversations going around now sound a lot like, “No one wants to work; I can’t find any good help.” I have also found this to be the case, but I think there is more to the story. All this being said, I believe if you want to work and have a good work ethic (I promise we will define this), then you can find great work and do very well for yourself.

What does it take to have a great work ethic?

Being reliable and dependable is the first step. Remember people depend on you, and when you don’t show up, things can’t get done. Keeping distractions at a minimum is important. We all have personal issues, but work is not the time to deal with personal issues or focus on those issues. Cooperation and teamwork are important. It truly takes a team to get work done. Support your team, and they will support you. Having a strong character is important. Honestly, loyalty and integrity make for a great worker. Organization is a must. Time management is another top skill. Focus and staying on your work target is one more. Master the above and I believe you can eventually write your own ticket.

A positive attitude not only gets more work done but makes everyone have better workdays. What makes a positive attitude? It is a can-do attitude. It is supportive of others and a light heartedness while working your tail off.

Take care of your appearance. Show up every day. Have a good attitude. Work on your communication skills. Cooperate with others. Have respect for those you work with, your supervisors, and your clients. Develop high emotional intelligence. What does that even mean? Understand your own emotions and deal with them. Also, it is so important to understand others and help, not hurt, others. Don’t participate in

Don’t participate in drama. Don’t gossip about anyone. Wait a minute, these all sound like good ways to live your whole life.

Some behaviors that are the opposite of a good work ethic include:

•Sloppy work

•Tardiness

•Seeing only problems not solutions

•Complaining

•Blaming others

•Taking credit for others’ work

Stay away from these behaviors.

Love,

Aunt B
