Arbor Day is a day to observe, appreciate and plant trees, and it’s seen as a day of optimism for the planet. This year’s National Arbor Day is April 29. The Arbor Day Foundation explains, “While most holidays celebrate something that has already happened and is worth remembering, Arbor Day represents a hope for the future. The simple act of planting a tree represents a belief that the tree will grow to provide us with clean air and water, cooling shade, habitat for wildlife, healthier communities, and endless natural beauty — all for a better tomorrow.”

Forney Education Foundation also believes in “planting” the seeds of knowledge and nurturing the young plants to facilitate growth for the future. When George Brown shared his idea with other members in the Forney community in 2003, he was already a big believer in planting now for the future. George personally understands that future growth is dependent on present day

“planting”. His original vision was to provide a scholarship for every graduate in Forney ISD to help with college. As the growth in FISD continued, the Foundation realized that there were graduates that needed that form of scholarship–just not for college. So, FEF then added in reimbursements for certifications for careers such as welding and phlebotomy to insure that as many students as possible were receiving that extra help for their futures. The Foundation also added teacher-requested grants that really exemplify the notion of “planting for the future.” The teachers in Forney ISD are really the true “gardeners” in the classrooms–they know the meaning of planting “trees” now for the future growth of their students.

How would you like to be a part of the forest of knowledge that gives nurturing shade to the students in Forney ISD? It is a very simple process. All you have to do is visit www.forneyisdfoundation.org and “plant” a donation. Please remember that no donation is too small or too big; the Foundation knows how to grow things!
