He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian College in 1951. After marriage to Jean Dobbs in 1951, Henry taught school, marketed pharmaceuticals, worked in religious publishing, then joined IBM-Dallas in 1957 and enjoyed a successful 33-year career with International Business Machine (IBM), retiring in 1990 in Austin, TX.

Henry worked hard to provide a home where all felt welcome, loved, and taken care of. If you needed a helping hand, he was available. Henry’s interests revolved around family, church, tennis, golf, and neighborhood.

He was very active in local church work with Westover Hills Church of Christ as well as in the mission field. He was baptized in 1942 in Lewisville, TX and was drawn to mission work after attending his first ACU Lectureship in 1948 as a freshman. Henry loved telling others about the Bible and never met a stranger. He taught adult Sunday school classes at churches of Christ in Abilene, Dallas, and Endwell, NY. His house was always open to those that needed a hot meal or a bed to sleep in. He served on the Mission committee of his local church in Austin and participated in mission meetings and many campaigns in the USA, South America, Asia, Europe, and Africa eventually focusing on Indonesia. He was very active with World Bible School for many years, placing ads in publications around the world that led thousands to study the Bible.

He loved golf and tried to play at least three times a week after retirement. He achieved a long-time goal of shooting an even par round 72 in 1996 and in 1997 Henry won the club championship for men 65 & older at Balcones Country Club where he was a member. In addition, Henry loved to walk and was a familiar sight around the neighborhood.
