Many people enjoy the ritual of waiting to see if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow when he emerges from his burrow on February 2. As the legend goes, if he’s frightened by his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. And this Texas winter season has been a veritable roller coaster of temperatures bouncing from temperatures in the 60s to the temperatures in the 20s and then back up again! One thing the Forney community really doesn’t want is a repeat of February 2021, when the temps and snow fell and stayed down for nearly a week. The thing about winter weather in North Texas is that there isn’t supposed to be prolonged ice and snow–just a day or two! So how accurate is Phil? Only about 35-39% correct according to the National Weather Service--not a very good record.

But the Forney Education Foundation has a good record when it comes to assisting the teachers and students in Forney ISD. Since the beginning of FEF in 2004 through 2017, the students have been helped through post-high school scholarships.

Then beginning in Fall 2008, teacher-requested grants were added in to the help that FEF gives to students and teachers in FISD. For the 2021-22 school year, the Foundation awarded 33 grants and over $69,000 to improve education in our classrooms. This amount is wonderful on its own, but the total given by FEF for the teacher-requested grants since 2008 is over a million dollars!

We cannot do any of this without the support of the Forney Family and Community that generously gives to FEF when asked. We appreciate any and all donations that come to the Foundation because we know that combining small amounts can lead to big results--like one little groundhog adding six whole weeks--and that a little bit from everyone can lead to massive outcomes.
