Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) is the latest local government entity to achieve specific debt transparency goals through the Comptroller’s Transparency Stars program. NTMWD received a Transparency Star in the area of debt obligations, which recognizes entities whose websites show visual and narrative detail on outstanding debt, tax-supported debt obligations, historical bond elections and more.

“By providing taxpayers with essential debt information in a variety of formats, NTMWD has shown a true commitment to Texas taxpayers. This effort achieves the goals set by our Transparency Stars program,” Hegar said. “I am pleased to award NTMWD a star for its accomplishments.”

The Texas Transparency Stars program encourages greater access to information and emphasizes that informa tion be straightforward and allow for users to easily perform basic analysis on the data.

“We continue our build on our commitment for financial transparency with this ad ditional effort related to our debt obligations,” said Jenna Covington, NTMWD Executive Director. “As the District now serves over two million North Texans, sharing how we are able to provide safe, affordable and reliable services is part of our pledge to be responsible stewards of our region’s resources.”

NTMWD combines numerous financial documents with visualizations, summaries, downloadable data and other helpful information into a single online location – NTMWD.com/Financial-Transparency. This concentration of data includes budgets, expenditures and revenue charts, comprehensive annual financial reports, check registers, strategic financial plans and links to archived data.

Debt Obligations is the second transparency star received by NTMWD, previously being awarded the Transparency Star for Traditional Finances. The District issues multiple types of long-term debt by its different systems for design, acquisition, and construction of capital facilities and equipment. The Debt Obligation page goes beyond the basic legislative requirements by providing narrative overviews, visualizations, documents and downloadable data associated with the District’s debt.

NTMWD will continue efforts to include greater online access to the resources required under the Transparency Stars program.
