On December 8 and 9, the Forney Education Foundation’s Grant Train rolled through Forney ISD awarding the teacher requested grants that had been funded for the 2021-2022 school year. And there were smiles and excitement to be heard and seen by all! The excitement at each classroom reveal was simply amazing; there were big smiles, loud and happy sounds from the teachers and students alike–some of our teachers even cried a bit and some even danced a bit when they realized their grant had been funded. And as big as the smiles on the teachers’ and students’ faces were, the Board members that were there for all of the reveals rivaled them in their excitement and passion for what the Foundation can give to the students in Forney ISD. The Grant Train days are the culmination of numerous hours of work and research on the part of the amazing educational professionals, the Board members, and the generous donors who truly understand what their donation can become to the students in Forney ISD. The donors that support FEF with their donations also understand that while large donations make a larger immediate impact, many small donations add up and make an impact as well.

This year’s Grant Train awarded 33 grants and over $69,000. The question might be what types of grants were funded? Everything from items to help elementary students to get over the hurdle of difficulty with reading to items to help students with social/ emotional aids to help get past these last two years of school that was different (to say the least!) to handheld video game consoles that help test computer code in the real world instead of just on a computer.

With this year’s Grant Train, FEF has surpassed awarding over a million dollars since 2008 to classroom teachers and administrators. Would you like to enjoy helping make next year’s trip even better?
