Body

Dear Aunt B Readers,

We are so close to the end of this year, I wanted to take some time to remind you and myself of a very important topic. We have touched this before but oh how powerful this topic is if we can just master the concept.

How do you find yourself? I mean your true self. Many of us search high and low to discover who we are and what we want out of this life. The search goes on and on for the ones of us that are searching. There is never a shortage of gurus willing to tell us ways to discover the real us.

I believe the lure in this journey is if we just could figure this one thing out it would be our key to discovering our passion and our happiness. This could not be further from the truth. This quest is fraught with disappointments. I feel a little like a fake me right now just using the word fraught. I had to look it up just to make sure I used it correctly. So is this me being fake or me deciding to grow a little with my vocabulary?

Drum roll please. You do not discover yourself, you create yourself. We get to decide all the way. Who do you want to be? How do you decide who you want to be, if the world is your oyster?

This is what I am going to do for the year 2022. I am going to look at those that I respect. I am going to look towards those I admire. I am going to look at those I love and the characteristics about them that I love. I am committed to creating my best self and I get to decide who and what that is.

Spoiler alert, I am also responsible for the work needed to become that person. I believe this is another lure of believing we just need to discover our true self. The belief that in the discovering of our true self, the living of it just becomes easy and no work or attention is involved. The unrealistic belief that you just wake up each morning fulfilled and passionate. Whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing, this just isn’t true.

So now is the time to decide. Who do you want to become? Break this down anyway you choose. You may want to look at this for your profession. You may want to look at this on a personal basis. Some of you want to look at both. I am personally picking three areas of improvement for the first quarter of next year. In the past I picked three for the entire year and I got lost in them. I found myself postponing the work I needed to do. Structure this anyway you like. Just do it your own way. Now is a perfect time to decide and implement new strategies into your life.

Love,

Aunt B
