The Forney Jackrabbits hosted the Royse City Bulldogs for their regular season finale of the 2021 Season last Friday night, November 5. A win versus the Bulldogs, who came into the game with an eight and one record, would result in a second place district finish for the Jackrabbits. Winning this game would also secure a home playoff game for Forney for the first round of playoffs, something FHS hasn’t seen in nearly two decades.

A clear cold Friday night, Forney fans bundled up and settled into their places in the stands. It was Senior Night at City Bank Stadium, and the Forney Family was there to support all of its students. Following the recognition of FHS Seniors, Royse City would jump out to an early 20-7 lead. But the Jackrabbits would ultimately shut out the Bulldogs in the second half to win 30 to 20.

The Jackrabbits’ touchdowns came on a variety of plays. Running Back Jayden Brown erupted in the second half and provided a spark to the Forney Offense. Brown scored on an 18 yard run in the third quarter. Brown would score again later in the ball game on a 34 yard dash to the endzone. Jake White would also connect with Zach Fuller for a three yard touchdown pass in the game.

Royse City got off to a fast start against the Jackrabbit Defense, but Forney would settle into the game and shut out the Bulldogs after halftime. Josh Stephens would block an early Royse City punt attempt, and Linebacker Tanner Howland would recover the ball and return it for a touchdown for the first Jackrabbit points of the contest. Linebacker Preston Cooper would lead the team in tackles with nine. Cooper also recorded a tackle for loss in the game. Defensive Lineman Tristan Bennett racked up six tackles, a tackle for loss, as well as a forced fumble and recovery that nearly resulted in points for the Jackrabbits. Defensive Back Sebastian Slater was operating a “no fly zone” throughout the night, breaking up three Bulldog pass attempts.

The Forney Jackrabbits, now 7 and 3, look to ride their momentum into the playoffs when they host Frisco-Liberty tomorrow night, November 12, at City Bank Stadium for a First Round matchup. Come out to cheer on your Rabbits! Ticket and game information can be found on www. jackrabbitathletics.com.
