Last Friday, October 22, the Forney Jackrabbits hosted the Ennis Lions for a Week Eight Matchup of two teams that were both undefeated in district play. A win versus the Lions would lock Forney in a playoff spot. However, key errors by the Jackrabbits would prove to be their downfall in the contest. Forney would lose the game 31-7.

The game opened with Ennis set to receive the ball, but Forney managed to recover their own kickoff, a move that instilled hope in the fans as the night began. Unfortunately, though, the Jackrabbits couldn’t capitalize on this good fortune and ended up returning the ball to the Lions who diligently pushed down the field to eventually score their first touchdown of the night. From this point on, Forney continued to put in the effort to get down the field as well as to stop the Lions from making their own progress, but when it was all said and done Ennis simply outplayed the Rabbits.

The sole Jackrabbits’ touchdown of the game came on a Jake White touchdown pass to Kofi Eduful in the second half. The Jackrabbits missed on a few opportunities for explosive plays during the game in the form of missed catches, fumbles, and just not being able to break through Ennis’s defensive line. But the crowd was still witness to some great displays of talent by Running Back Jon’Richard Washington, Wide Receiver Andrew Gafford, and others.

The Jackrabbits’ Defense gave it their all to contain the Lions’ Offense throughout the night. However, Ennis took advantage of some key plays in which the Forney Defense made costly mistakes. The Forney Defense was led by Linebacker Preston Cooper who had 11 tackles on the night. Safety Seth Hyder stood out in the game as well, intercepting a pass and racking up five tackles. Jack Mayhall did not put up impressive numbers but did his job throughout the game stuffing the formidable Ennis rushing attack.

The Jackrabbits, now 5 and 3, look to guarantee their spot in the playoffs this week when they travel to Sulphur Springs for their penultimate game against the Wildcats, who have yet to win a game this season. The game is set for 7:30pm on Friday, October 29.
