With cool fall weather to close out the district’s fall break, the varsity Forney Jackrabbits traveled to Greenville for their Week Seven matchup against the Lions last Friday night. The Jackrabbits entered the game unbeaten in District play, and a win versus the Lions would keep Forney in the playoff picture for District 5A. With this in mind, the Jackrabbit Defense wreaked havoc all night, shutting out the Lions completely, and the Jackrabbit Offense overcame a slow start and erupted for 35 points on the night. The scoring plays for Jackrabbits last Friday night came as the result of some great passing and run plays alike. Three of the touchdowns were passes by Quarterback, Jake White, caught by Andrew Gafford, Alijah Merkson, and Ashton Ford. The two other Jackrabbit touchdowns of the night came on the ground. One rushing touchdown was the result of a Josh Stephens wildcat run. The other rushing touchdown came on a powerful run from Zach Fuller.

As the night progressed, the Jackrabbits’ Defense never eased up on the Greenville Lions. Forney’s incredible athletes sacked the opposing quarterback six times on the night. Forney’s Defense also accumulated 11 tackles for loss and forced two turnovers in the game.

While all of the Forney Jackrabbits performed well under the Friday night lights, notable performances this week include Defensive End Tristan Bennett, who accounted for three sacks on the night, and Linebacker Ky Kennedy who played a vital role on special teams, blocking two punts in the game.

Another excellent performance by the Forney Band, Color Guard, Highsteppers, and Cheerleaders rounded out last week’s game. Make sure to come out this week to support your Forney Jackrabbits (5-2) as they look to remain unbeaten in District play. The Rabbits will host the Ennis Lions this Friday, October 22, at City Bank Stadium with a kickoff time set for 7:30pm. Visit www.jackrabbitathletics.com for more game information and to buy tickets.
