The Forney Jackrabbits hosted their local foe, the Crandall Pirates, at City Bank Stadium for a Thursday night matchup last week. Both teams and their fans who came out to support them were looking forward to this showdown between neighboring towns. Crandall came onto the field confidently and was expected to present a great challenge for the Jackrabbits as FHS sought to defend their winning streak.
Crandall’s Offense entered the game on their own hot streak, averaging over 50 points a game. The Jackrabbit Defense was up to the challenge, though, and managed to hold the Pirates to just 23 points in regulation play.
The Jackrabbit Offense was able to utilize a strong running game throughout the night to wear down the formidable Pirates’ Defense. Ultimately, the game was sealed when Jackrabbit Defensive Back Josh Stephens intercepted the ball during Crandall’s final possession of the game in the third overtime.
The Jackrabbits’ scores on the night came from a Jake White touchdown pass, a Josh Stephens rush, a Jon’Richard Washington rush, and a two-point conversion pass from Josh Stephens to Jake White. Braden Merchant nailed three field goals in the game, including a 41-yard attempt with less than a minute remaining in regulation.
Notable performances from the game include Defensive Back Josh Stephens who rushed for a touchdown, converted a two-point conversion pass, and sealed the victory by intercepting the ball on Crandall’s last possession.
The Jackrabbits (4-2) look to remain unbeaten in District play when they travel to Greenville High School this week for a showdown against the Lions. The game is set for a 7:30 pm kickoff on Friday, October 15.
