The amazing people that grace your life are truly a gift. I have been fortunate in my life to have been blessed by unforgettable teachers and people who have come into my life through school and through Flower Basket. This past week one of my favorite people passed away, and he will always be a bright light in my universe. Franklin Herren was many things to many people, but for me he was an artist and craftsman that loved white carnations and baby’s breath. He appreciated add-ins like birds, butterflies, and sparkly twigs, but he really loved the dynamic of white carnations and baby’s breath in his weekly arrangement. He constructed wooden boxes that were completely made of wood--even the hinges--and each piece took my breath away! He chose beautiful pieces of wood and combined them to create a dynamic look of natural colors and multiple wood types. I was so fortunate that he made me my own box, which I use every day--it was a perfect place to put my jewelry.
If we are lucky in our academic endeavors, we are blessed with those same kind of unforgettable people as teachers, too. My third grade teacher, Mrs. Barnes, made me feel welcome as my family had just moved back to Texas. And my senior year English teacher, Mrs. Kaj, also made me feel welcome after my family again had moved back to Texas. And Mrs. Kaj was determined that the college-bound academic English class could write proper sentences and ultimately proper papers--she made freshman English so much easier for me in college.
Forney ISD is blessed with teachers who are unforgettable and make a difference in their students’ lives every day--like Mr. Herren, they are serious craftspeople. We like to think that FEF grants help make school memories. And since FEF has added the Adopt-A-Grant option, there are even more opportunities for the people in the Forney area to help. Won’t you join us in helping these amazing teachers impact their student’s’ lives? Please go to www.forneyisdfoundation. org and see how easy it is to make an impact on the lives of the students in Forney ISD.
